A Practical Sample Approval Checklist for Apparel Buyers

Check fit and measurements
Measure the sample using the agreed method. Review comfort and appearance on the intended fit model where possible. Record each deviation against the specification.
Inspect fabric and construction
Review hand feel, seams, pocket position, trims, stitching and garment balance. Compare color and fabric with approved references under appropriate lighting.
Review branding and packaging
Check artwork size and position, spelling, labels, size identification, care information and packaging. Verify legal labeling requirements for the intended market with an appropriate adviser.
Document approval
Send one consolidated revision list with photographs and measurements. Keep a dated approved sample and written specification. Approval should identify any remaining conditions explicitly.
